Nothing tastes sweeter than this cantaloupe vine ripened to a deep salmon/orange. Each hill will produce 6-8 mid-size fruit.
Growing Instructions:
- Plant in hills, do not seperate plants.
- Rich moist soil and full sun is best.
- The first of July is lots early for planting melons. They really do like warm ground.
- In Southern Ontario the season is too short to start in the garden from seed. The plants need a head start to produce fruit by mid August.
- The cool nights of early September will finish the plants.
- Wait until the cantaloupe turn from green to yellow to harvest ripe.
- To keep the soil warm and moist and weeds down mulch with straw, grass cuttings or biodegradable black plastic.
- Plant 3' apart and 5-6' between rows.
- Melons are harder to grow in containers because they produce such long runners.
- Remember to keep your melons and cucumbers seperated so they do not cross pollinate. Nothing worse than a great melon that tastes like a cucumber.
